New Delhi, Nov. 4 -- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has begun clearing accumulated waste along railway stretches, with its South-East Zone undertaking a cleanliness drive following the Centre's directive to address widespread garbage dumping on railway land across the Capital.

The civic body's drive focused on removing legacy waste and clearing garbage from areas adjoining railway tracks, with the aim of improving sanitation and preventing further accumulation. The initiative comes after the Railway Board raised concerns over large-scale dumping at 125 locations spread across 18.93 km of railway land in Delhi.

At a review meeting held under the Centre's Special Campaign 6.0, the Union Home Secretary directed the MCD to identify affected stretches, document dumping hotspots and prepare an action plan within 15 days. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Railway Board, Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, MCD and New Delhi Municipal Council.
