NEW DELHI, July 15 -- Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for setting up Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants in the Capital for the scientific processing of cow dung. Union home minister Amit Shah called upon the initiative for developing a clean and green city.

The event was held in the presence of Union minister of state for animal husbandry and dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lallan Singh), Delhi LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and several other officials from the centre and the state government.

Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said that the project will not only help in making the city clean but also promote organic farming, produce clean fuel in the form of compressed biogas and add to the income of cattle owners. Shah also added that the project will serve as a role model for other metro cities in the country.

Speaking on the development of the Yamuna river, Shah said that the river can only be cleaned when the sewage and waste thrown in it are properly treated. He added that nearly 80 treatment plants have been proposed in the national capital for the treatment of sewage and effluents.

The home minister said that arrangements have been made so that the dung of 1.25 lakh cattle does not get mixed with the Yamuna river. He further added that he is confident that not a single drop of untreated waste water will enter the river by December 2028.

As per the plan, the dung will be processed at Nangli, Ghoga-Goyla and Ghazipur waste management centres. The home minister announced that cattle owners will get one rupee per kg of dung. He said that the initiative would benefit the cattle owners by giving them an additional source of income.
