New Delhi, May 14 -- Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi on Thursday travelled to his office by Metro and e-rickshaw, advocating greater use of public transportation to address fuel wastage, air pollution and traffic congestion in the Capital.
Beginning his commute on the Delhi Metro and later taking an e-rickshaw from New Delhi Metro Station, the Mayor interacted with passengers during the journey and highlighted the environmental and economic benefits of using public transport. According to officials, the initiative was aimed at encouraging citizens to reduce dependence on private vehicles and adopt more sustainable modes of travel.
Wahi said the move was inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to citizens to increasingly use public transportation in daily life. He added that Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and several ministers of the Delhi government have also been using public transport to spread awareness about fuel conservation and environmental protection.
The Mayor said collective participation by citizens could significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve Delhi's air quality. He also noted that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has issued an advisory encouraging its officers and employees to use public transport and opt for carpooling wherever possible.
Passengers travelling with the Mayor welcomed the initiative, describing it as a positive example set by a public representative. Civic officials said such efforts could help build greater public awareness around sustainable urban mobility and responsible fuel consumption.
