Mumbai, Nov. 5 -- The BSE Sensex rallied nearly 2,009 points and the NSE Nifty surged 576 points on Thursday, amid a sharp decline in crude oil prices and hopes of a resolution to the West Asia conflict after the results of the midterm elections, where American voters gave the opposition Democratic Party control of the US Congress.
Sustained foreign fund inflows and a sharp rally in the US markets also lifted investor sentiment and buying across sectors led the benchmark Nifty50 to a three-month high. The 50-share index last traded above the 24,550 level on August 7 at 24,570.65.
The 30-share BSE Sensex zoomed 2,008.61 points, or 2.60 per cent, to settle at 79,310.01.

"Indian equities sustained their gap-up opening and extended gains for a sixth consecutive session. The shift in sentiment followed a sharp unwinding of crude oil's geopolitical risk premium after the US midterm outcome fuelled expectations of a negotiated de-escalation with Iran. Brent crude recovered modestly from its overnight lows but continued to trade around $96 a barrel, well below last week's levels," Hariselvan Radhakrishnan, Founder & CEO of HST Wealth said.
In Asian markets, South Korea's Kospi and Japan's Nikkei 225 index ended sharply lower, while Shanghai's SSE Composite index and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index settled higher.
