
Kolkata, Oct. 7 -- A 44-year-old man was found dead inside a taxi locked from the inside on Debendra Chandra Dey Road in Tangra on Wednesday, with both legs tied with a rope, police said. Blood marks were also found on his face.
The deceased was identified as Bhagwan Prasad Gupta, a resident of Doltala in Madhyamgram. Police are investigating the circumstances of his death and whether he was murdered.
Police said Entally Police Station received information about a stationary luxury taxi parked in front of 25, Debendra Chandra Dey Road. Officers found Gupta lying in front of the rear seat, with the vehicle locked from inside.As the taxi could not be opened, a local mechanic was called to break the lock. The process was videographed, police said. Gupta was found unresponsive with no palpable pulse. Both his legs were tied with a rope.
The Homicide Squad, Detective department and Scientific Wing of Kolkata Police examined the vehicle and the area. The body was sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.
Gupta is suspected to have been the cab driver, police sources said. Investigators are checking his movements before his death, including whom he had met on Tuesday night, and whether he had any dispute or enmity with anyone.
