Siliguri, Oct. 30 -- Matigara Police have arrested a man for allegedly impersonating an officer of the Anti Crime Bureau of India (ACBI) and attempting to enter Webel IT Park in Matigara. The accused has been identified as Shekhar Saha. According to police, Saha is originally from Alipurduar district and was residing in the Pradhan Nagar area of Siliguri.
According to police sources, the Webel IT Park management lodged a written complaint with Matigara Police where it was stated that on Thursday night a man arrived at the IT park claiming to be an officer of the ACBI. He allegedly told the management that he had come to conduct a raid at the premises.
The management questioned the individual and checked his identity card. However, discrepancies in his identity raised suspicion, following which he was denied entry into the IT park and was asked to leave.
Police arrested the accused from the Lexicon More area in Matigara within a few hours after the complaint. Police also recovered an identity card bearing the name 'Anti Crime Bureau of India' from his possession.
The accused was produced before a Siliguri court on Friday. About a month ago, nine people were arrested from the IT park on allegations of operating a fake call centre and cheating people. Police are also investigating whether the arrested person has any links to the earlier scam.
