India, July 15 -- Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee spoke to activist Sonam Wangchuk on Tuesday to enquire about his health as he continued his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, Delhi, demanding Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation. According to Abhijeet Dipke, a member of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), Banerjee urged Wangchuk to stay strong and extended her solidarity to the CJP's movement seeking justice for students. The Trinamool extended support to Wangchuk's protest. TMC MPs Mahua Moitra and Sagarika Ghose expressed solidarity with the movement and met the protesters. Moitra also urged Wangchuk to end his fast, writing, "Your fast has united this country's youth in their war for justice. Your goal is reached. The government doesn't care about your life or that of crores of youth. But your life matters to us. Please call off the fast and continue the fight." Wangchuk has been on a hunger strike for 17 days at Jantar Mantar, where his health has deteriorated.
