New Delhi, Sept. 1 -- Kolkata; Tension gripped the Kusumba village of Rampurhat in Birbhum after Bristi Mukherjee (28), the niece of former Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was found hanging under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday morning at her residence.
Bristi, the daughter of local TMC leader and the former Chief Minister's cousin Nihar Mukherjee, was found hanging on the upper floor of the house by her family members.
According to sources, Bristi had reportedly been suffering from severe depression for the past few years and was undergoing regular medical treatment. It was learnt that she was facing immense personal and legal stress. Furthermore, Bristi's name was recently embroiled in the ongoing SSC recruitment scam.
Following orders from the Calcutta High Court regarding recruitment irregularities, her appointment was cancelled.A probe is underway to determine the sequence of events.
