
Malda, Sept. 28 -- In two separate operations, police seized over 2.8 kg of suspected narcotics and arrested three alleged drug traffickers in Malda on Sunday night. The estimated value of the haul in the grey market is more than
Rs. 2 crore.
At Malda Town Railway Station, the GRP and the district police's Crime Monitoring Group arrested Jubail Sheikh and Alep Sheikh after allegedly recovering 2.582 kg of banned narcotics from their possession.
Police said the duo had arrived by a train from Kamakhya. Acting on a tip-off, officers kept surveillance at the station and detained the two men after the train arrived. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth around Rs 2 crore.
The arrested men are residents of Mozampur and Mominpara areas of Kaliachak. "Preliminary questioning suggests that they were promised Rs 10,000 each to carry the narcotics from Kamakhya to Malda," police said. Investigators are probing the intended recipient and others allegedly linked to the network. The duo was produced before the Malda district court on Monday, with police seeking seven days' custody. In another operation, Kaliachak police arrested Jamiruddin Sheikh, a resident of Chainpara in Bihar's Katihar district, from the Kalikapur embankment area. Police allegedly recovered 292 grams of brown sugar from him.
