Kolkata, June 8 -- In a major reshuffle of the state's police leadership, the West Bengal government on Monday transferred 179 officers, including 155 IPS officers and 24 officers of the West Bengal Police Service (WBPS).

The exercise follows a series of promotions that had left several senior officers serving in posts below their ranks. The latest order seeks to align postings with officers' current ranks while filling key positions across the state police and Kolkata Police.

Among the notable changes, Kolkata Police Additional Commissioner Subhankar Sinha Sarkar has been posted as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Provisioning, while Additional Commissioner V. Solomon Nesakumar has been made IGP, Personnel. Kunal Aggarwal, who was serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG), WBNVF despite holding the rank of IGP, has been appointed Additional Commissioner (Crime), Kolkata Police. Dip Narayan Goswami, IGP, Malda Range, has also been transferred as an Additional Commissioner in Kolkata Police.

Mukesh, who was serving as IGP, Intelligence Branch (Border), has been posted as IGP, Armed Police, Kolkata, while Joint Commissioner of Police (Security) Mehmood Akhter has been made IGP, Traffic. Joint Commissioner (Crime) Soma Das Mitra has been posted as IGP, Policy. Nilanjan Biswas, Joint Commissioner (Modernisation), has been promoted and appointed Additional Commissioner in Kolkata Police.

At the Joint Commissioner level, Birbhum SP Surya Pratap Yadav has been promoted to the DIG rank and posted as Joint Commissioner (Traffic), Kolkata Police. Dinesh Kumar has been posted as Joint Commissioner, STF, on promotion.

Several Deputy Commissioners in Kolkata Police have also been reassigned. Pradeep Kumar Yadav, DC (North), has been transferred as DC, STF, while Purba Bardhaman SP Sayak Das will replace him. Praween Prakash, Commandant of an SSF battalion, has been appointed DC (Central). Rahul Dey, DC (South West Division), becomes DC (South), while Howrah Rural SP Subimal Pal has been posted as DC, Eastern Suburban Division. Khandbahale Umesh Ganpat, Special Superintendent, Intelligence Branch, has been made DC, South Suburban Division. Charu Sharma has been transferred from the South Suburban Division to the Siliguri Police Commissionerate, while Manish Joshi moves from Bhangar Division to become DC (Traffic), Kolkata Police.

Elsewhere, Gaurav Sharma, IGP (Traffic), has been posted as IGP, STF, while Sukesh Kumar Jain, IGP, Intelligence Branch, has been appointed IGP, Cyber Crime Wing. Diamond Harbour Police District SP Ishani Paul has been transferred as DC, South West Division, Kolkata Police, and Chandra Sekhar Bardhan, SP, Home Guard, will succeed her in Diamond Harbour.
