New Delhi, Sept. 16 -- Teaching roles fell to their lowest point in October 2025 before recovering steadily from January 2026 onward. By July 2026, postings had reached their strongest level in the 12-month period, marking nine consecutive months of growth. According to a latest study of Indeed, job postings across the sector increased by nearly 14% between July 2025 and July 2026. At the same time, contract and part-time teaching opportunities grew faster than traditional full-time roles. While full-time education-sector job postings increased by nearly 14% over the past year, contract roles grew by almost 40%. Part-time opportunities also increased by nearly 28%.
The faster growth of these roles could reflect employers' need for greater flexibility, particularly when hiring professionals with specialised expertise or responding to specific and changing learning requirements.
For professionals, the shift could also create opportunities for different ways of working within the education sector.
However, education-sector hiring remains particularly strong across several major Indian states. As of July 2026, Maharashtra accounted for the largest share of education-sector job postings on Indeed at 14.3%, followed closely by Tamil Nadu at 14.2%. Karnataka accounted for 11.8% of postings, while Kerala represented 10%.
