Kolkata, Nov. 1 -- Bengal Mass Education and Library minister Gouri Shankar Ghosh on Sunday questioned the utilisation of Central funds sanctioned for Murshidabad Junction Railway Station's development, alleging mismanagement, poor maintenance and financial irregularities.
Ghosh said he had sought explanations from the station's officer-in-charge a few months ago on several issues and was promised a response within three days. However, nearly two months have passed without any reply,
he alleged.
During a visit to the station on Sunday, Ghosh inspected the premises and flagged unclean platforms, overgrown vegetation and stagnant water, which he said could pose a dengue threat. He also pointed to tangas parked inside the station, a frequently non-functional escalator and the prolonged closure of the women's waiting room and several toilets.
"The toilets are not cleaned. I frequently use this station and had raised the issue, but no action was taken," he said.
