Jalpaigur, Oct. 28 -- Tension gripped Khan Sahebpara in Garalbari, Jalpaiguri, after three houses were allegedly vandalised using a JCB machine around 3 am on Wednesday. The incident is suspected to be linked to a dispute over the alleged poisoning of goats and chickens.
According to local sources, the houses belonged to families who had earlier lodged complaints over the deaths of their livestock.
A large police contingent from Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police Station reached the spot after receiving information, brought the situation under control and launched an investigation. The affected families subsequently approached the police station to lodge complaints.
MD Sirajul Islam, one of the complainants, alleged that the incident stemmed from a land dispute. "I purchased a plot of land from Kuddus Ali. A few days later, he applied weed-killing chemicals to the land, following which I lodged a complaint at Kotwali Police Station. Subsequently, our livestock were allegedly poisoned and killed. In the early hours of Wednesday, a JCB was used to vandalise the house on the plot," he alleged.
Sirajul claimed that the perpetrators fled with the JCB before the family members reached the spot. He demanded a thorough investigation and strict action against those responsible. Police are investigating the incident.
