Kolkata, Sept. 18 -- Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nand on Friday said a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) had been issued to all police stations on dealing with unauthorised construction, with a zero-tolerance approach mandated.
Speaking at a programme at Lalbazar, Nand stressed coordination between police and civic authorities, saying municipal corporations and local bodies were responsible for action against
illegal structures.
Police would investigate complaints, inform the competent authority and provide assistance during demolitions to maintain law and order.
The move comes amid a Calcutta High Court-ordered CBI inquiry into allegations of over 50 illegal constructions in areas including Beleghata, Maniktala, Rajabazar and Canal East Road. A KMC report had identified 42 structures as allegedly illegal.
