Kolkata, April 20 -- TMC leader Kunal Ghosh on Monday shared a purported circular of the BJP, alleging it pointed to plans to deploy money and "outsiders" for polling-day management, while the BJP's Bengal unit dismissed the document as "fake" and accused the TMC of spreading misinformation.
The document in question, bearing a BJP Bengal letterhead and dated April 20, 2026, appears to instruct district-level leaders to make arrangements for workers coming from outside the state, including accommodation and logistical support, with expenses to be coordinated through party channels.
Ghosh, in his social media post, claimed that if the directive was genuine, it suggested large-scale mobilisation of external workers and financial resources, necessitating strict verification and surveillance at the booth level.
He said if fake voters are smuggled into the state for creating trouble, then such outsiders need to be tied to a tree till the end of polling in the evening.
Responding, the BJP issued a statement on social media asserting that no such circular had been issued. The party termed the document fabricated and part of a "false narrative" being pushed ahead of the elections, alleging that the TMC was attempting to mislead voters amid fears of electoral defeat.
