Kolkata, Nov. 4 -- The cops of state Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) arrested a Group-D employee posted at the Block Land and Land Reforms Office (BL&LRO) in Kultali of South 24-Parganas on Wednesday after he was caught red-handed accepting an illegal gratification.
According to sources, the operation was executed based on a specific complaint filed by a local resident. The complainant had approached the Kultali BL&LRO to process a pending land mutation application. It is alleged that the accused staff member demanded a bribe to expedite the official paperwork and clear the mutation file.
Unwilling to comply with the illegal demand, the applicant contacted the anti-corruption authorities. Acting swiftly on the information, an ACB team laid a trap at the Kultali BL&LRO office. The employee was intercepted the moment the marked currency notes worth Rs 3,000 changed hands.
The tainted money was recovered on the spot, and the employee was taken into custody.
Earlier, on Tuesday, ACB officials had nabbed an official of the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) posted in New Barrackpore, North 24-Parganas, while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. To expedite the official clearance and facilitate the infrastructure setup, the accused official allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000.
