
Kolkata, Oct. 4 -- In an anti-narcotics operation ahead of the festive season, the Kolkata Police Special Task Force (STF) and the Anti-Narcotics Division conducted a joint raid at a premium hotel on Robinson Street, located under the jurisdiction of the Shakespeare Sarani Police Station.
Acting on a tip-off, joint law enforcement teams cordoned off the area around midnight on Saturday and raided an upper level room where a drug-fueled party was allegedly going on.
According to sources, the party was allegedly organised by a prominent local businessman and attended by approximately 70 guests. When the police raided the suite, attendees panicked and tried to flee the premises.
During the intensive search, the STF recovered five grams of cocaine concealed behind the television and inside multiple bags.
"This raid is part of an ongoing special drive to curb illegal narcotic operations and unlawful activities across nightlife hubs in Kolkata as we approach the festive season. During the raid five grams of cocaine was found. Our inquiry is on to get further details," said a senior Kolkata Police official.
It has been learnt that the authorities have launched a comprehensive inquiry into the hotel's management over arranging the party. No arrest was made so far.
