Kolkata, Sept. 13 -- Engineers of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) staged a demonstration on Saturday following the arrest of a civic body employee in connection with the Taratala warehouse collapse in June, which claimed 16 lives.
A KMC sub-assistant engineer (SAE) was arrested earlier in the day in connection with the incident, police said.
The protest was held at the KMC building department, where the agitating engineers threatened to suspend work until the arrested engineer was released. The protesters questioned the arrest of a junior-level employee while no action had been taken against the Director General (Building). They also put up posters demanding the resignation of the DG (Building), alleging that all work was carried out on his instructions.
The Taratala warehouse collapse, which took place on June 24, claimed 16 lives and left 17 injured.
