Kolkata, Sept. 8 -- Bengal BJP has started preparations for the forthcoming KMC elections with senior BJP leader and Union minister Sukanta Majumdar holding a strategy meeting at Beliaghata.
The strategy session focused on strengthening party preparedness for the upcoming civic polls, with workers and supporters from former Ward 29 of Beliaghata Assembly Constituency, now Ward 45 after draft delimitation, in attendance.
Sources said Majumdar evaluated grassroots organisational strength and outlined initial campaign strategies for the civic polls expected later this year.
After the meeting, Majumdar told reporters that a manifesto committee has been prepared for the civic body elections and he would recommend that the committee follow the Indore Corporation elections.
In the meeting, Majumdar instructed them to go door-to-door campaigning among the common people of the ward starting today for the purpose of the elections.
He said the focus isn't just on winning or casting votes, but also on listening to broader problems and suggesting solutions to develop a strategy.
It was learnt that Majumdar explicitly stated that ticket distribution will rely strictly on a candidate's local popularity, public image, and chances of winning, rather than seniority or tenure with the party. BJP has affirmed that it is preparing to contest all the wards independently without entering into regional alliances, unless advised otherwise by central leadership.
"We need to reach the homes of supporters of all opposition political parties in the area. We need to motivate them and inform them with information about what the BJP has done in the state after coming to power for just three months and how far the projects that Narendra Modi has brought for the country have been implemented," Majumdar said.
