New Delhi, Aug. 25 -- Kolkata; The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has drawn up the electoral blueprint for its proposed 209-ward structure, mapping each proposed ward to its Assembly constituency and electoral Part numbers while showing how electoral parts of existing wards are being redistributed in the new map.

In a letter dated August 22, the KMC is learnt to have submitted an 11-page statement to the additional chief secretary of the Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Department. The statement lists the existing ward number, new ward number, electoral Part Nos. and Assembly Constituency (AC) number for each entry.

The proposed wards have been mapped across 17 Assembly constituencies - Kasba (149), Jadavpur (150), Tollygunge (152), Behala Purba (153), Behala Paschim (154), Metiaburuz (157), Kolkata Port (158), Bhabanipur (159), Rashbehari (160), Ballygunge (161), Chowringhee (162), Entally (163), Beleghata (164), Jorasanko (165), Shyampukur (166), Maniktala (167) and Cossipore-Belgachia (168).

The mapping shows that the new wards do not always correspond to a single existing ward. Proposed Ward 56, for instance, comprises electoral parts of old Ward 44 along with parts of old Ward 43. Its proposed boundaries cover the College Street-Chittaranjan Avenue-Rabindra Sarani stretch.

Similarly, Ward 95 brings together parts of old Wards 137 and 138, with its proposed boundaries covering the Garden Reach area, including Garden Reach Road and S.A. Farooquie Road.

In the south-west, Ward 107 incorporates electoral parts from old Wards 131B and 132, with boundaries covering the Behala-Parnasree stretch, including Diamond Harbour Road and Upendranath Banerjee Road.

Ward 177 includes parts associated with old Wards 130 and 128 and is bounded by Netaji Subhas Road, Diamond Harbour Road, Becharam Chatterjee Road and Fakirpara Road.

The changes extend further south, with proposed Ward 199 covering Thakurpukur Road, Ranganath Pur Colony, Bakhrahat Road and Haspukur Road, with Diamond Harbour Road forming its eastern boundary.

The list covers Wards 1 to 209, while the detailed boundary schedule uses roads, railway lines, canals, rivers, mouza boundaries and, in some cases, specific plot or dag numbers to define the proposed limits.
