
Kanpur, May 24 -- The Health department has ordered a fresh inquiry into the hand amputation case of Nirmala Devi, mother of an ITBP jawan, here following allegations that the earlier probe was biased. ITBP officers and police officials will now join the reinvestigation alongside the medical team.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Haridatt Nemi said the earlier report was prepared transparently and submitted to the police commissioner, but concerns raised by ITBP officials led to the decision for a fresh probe. Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal has nominated an officer to assist in examining medical records, statements and findings.
The inquiry committee said the woman, a cardiac patient, suffered blockage in blood vessels that led to amputation. Histopathology tests are expected to determine the exact cause. CCTV footage from Krishna Hospital and Paras Hospital here is also being examined to trace treatment details and possible negligence during the critical 12-hour period.
