Kolkata, Sept. 15 -- Jadavpur University has extended mandatory identity checks to campus entry on Sundays and holidays and fixed 9.30 pm as the cut-off for students attending evening classes, under revised security guidelines issued on Monday.
The circular issued by the acting registrar says students attending evening classes can remain on campus until 9.30 pm with valid identity proof. It also requires anyone entering the campus on Sundays and holidays to carry a valid JU identity card.
Those without a university ID will have to produce another valid identity document and record details, including the contact number of the person they intend to meet, at the gate.
The university has also reiterated that group gatherings will not be allowed after 8 pm at places including the University ground, canteens and the area opposite Subarna Jayanti Bhavan. Fests and other student activities may be exempted from the restriction, but should be restricted up to 9 pm as far as possible. Anyone found on campus after 8 pm without a legitimate reason or permission will be treated as a trespasser and may face legal action.
Security personnel, including the night in-charge, will control entry and exit after 8 pm, and their decisions on access will be binding. Misconduct, intimidation or disrespectful behaviour towards security personnel will invite
disciplinary action. The latest measures come after the August 19 clash between student groups on campus, followed by allegations of outsiders entering the premises late at night and vandalising property.
The revised guidelines also reiterate the ban on alcohol, narcotics, illegal activities, trespassing and using the campus as a public thoroughfare. Vehicles entering the campus must display JU parking stickers, while security personnel can seek vehicle registration and identity details at the gates.
