New Delhi, Sept. 11 -- Union minister Jitendra Singh on Friday articulated a comprehensive vision for India's coastline, calling for an integrated approach that simultaneously addresses ecological preservation, national security, economic advancement, technological innovation and human development across the nation's maritime zones.
Singh underscored that India's 11,098-kilometre coastline cannot be viewed in silos but must function as an interconnected ecosystem spanning multiple priorities.
"Scientific departments must function as an integrated ecosystem rather than as isolated institutions," Singh said, emphasising that seamless coordination among government bodies would accelerate delivery of national priorities while ensuring scientific achievements directly benefit coastal communities.
The minister's remarks come amid preparations for the 'Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar' coastal cleanliness campaign scheduled for September 12-19. He described the initiative as a reflection of India's commitment toward marine ecological protection and sustainable ocean governance.
He highlighted the strategic significance of India's coastal infrastructure, which houses major ports, critical nuclear facilities and fish resources.
