New Delhi, Oct. 9 -- The occasion was the trailer launch of Bengali actor Dev's directorial debut, 'Desu7'. As the title suggests, the film marks the seventh outing of the hit on-screen pair, Dev and Subhashree. After 'Dhumketu', their decade-old film that remained unreleased for years before hitting the screens in 2025 and emerging as a box-office success, Dev is bringing the much-loved pair back to the big screen this Durga Puja. The actor, who is also producing 'Desu7', has taken on the director's role for the first time.
However, the trailer launch turned into a bromance celebration with Bengali superstar Jeet attending the event as the chief guest. Often seen as Dev's competitor in Bengali cinema, Jeet has shared screen space with him only once, in Raj Chakraborty's 2010 film 'Dui Prithibi'. Yet, audiences loved their pairing and on-screen camaraderie so much that fans have long hoped to see the two stars reunite.
On Thursday, Jeet's presence at the 'Desu7' trailer launch added glamour to the event while fuelling speculation about the changing dynamics of the Bengali film industry. Just days ago, the contemporary trio of Bengali cinema - Prosenjit Chatterjee, Jeet and Dev - was seen dancing together at the celebrations marking Uttam Kumar's birth centenary. Now, Jeet's appearance at Dev's film launch has further strengthened hopes of a possible collaboration between the two stars.
Jeet himself dropped a hint. "If 'Desu7' becomes a success and I know it will, then I will be there in Dev's next directorial venture," he said. The remark was followed by a warm hug between the two actors, drawing loud cheers from the audience.
Dev, too, had a playful observation to make about Jeet and Subhashree's on-screen chemistry. He said that after him, Jeet was the actor who looks best alongside Subhashree.
