New Delhi, Oct. 12 -- Jantar Mantar has been de-notified as a protest venue in Delhi as the Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and the CBD Ground in East Delhi have been identified as new places to hold protests and demonstrations.

The changes have been notified through Delhi Police Standing Order No. L&O/48/2026, issued after a review of the designated places for protests by a committee set up by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The committee was formed to look for alternate places to hold protests and demonstrations so that the right of citizens to protest can be exercised. Based on the recommendations of the committee, the three grounds have been designated as places to hold public demonstrations, and Jantar Mantar de-notified as such a venue.

Delhi Police said that detailed and revised standard operating procedures (SOPs) for holding protests and demonstrations at these three new venues would be issued separately. The latest order amends the earlier Delhi Police Standing Order No. L&O/48/22 dated April 28, 2022, regarding organisation of protests and demonstrations. The revised SOPs would come into force to organise public demonstrations at the three venues. More details about permissions and operations would follow once the new SOPs are issued.
