Jalpaiguri, Sept. 11 -- The four students allegedly involved in the attack on the headmaster of Jalpaiguri Zilla High School have been expelled from the school but will be allowed to continue their studies at other institutions, State School Education minister Dipak Barman announced on Friday.
Three days after the incident, the minister visited Jalpaiguri Zilla High School and inspected the premises.
He later held a meeting with the Jalpaiguri District Magistrate, MLA Jalpaiguri, the District Inspector of Schools, parents and headmasters of around 22 schools in the district.
At the meeting, the minister announced that the four students identified in connection with Tuesday's incident would be expelled from the school. However, he said arrangements would be made to ensure that their education was not disrupted and that they could enrol in other schools.
"The incident at Zilla High School on Tuesday has far-reaching implications. A message needs to be sent to the students. At the same time, the future of these students also needs to be taken into consideration.
After discussions, it was collectively decided that the students would be expelled from the school. However, they will be allowed to enrol in other schools so that their education can continue. Four students have been identified in connection with the incident.
The District Magistrate will look into the other matters at the administrative level," Barman said.
