New Delhi, April 15 -- ITC on Wednesday said it has become the first company in India to receive the globally recognised Farm Sustainability Assessment (FSA 3.0) certification for wheat and paddy, marking a significant step in sustainable agricultural sourcing.

The company said the certification enhances its credibility among global buyers by ensuring that its sourcing practices are responsible, traceable and aligned with international standards. This is particularly relevant for markets such as the European Union, where buyers are increasingly focused on sustainability commitments, including due diligence on agronomic practices, deforestation and labour standards.

According to ITC, the adoption of FSA 3.0 standards offers tangible benefits to both farmers and the environment. Farmers benefit from improved yields, better price realisation and stronger market linkages, while sustainable practices contribute to improved soil health and reduced emissions through efficient use of resources such as water, fuel and fertilisers.

The company has implemented these global standards across more than 22,000 acres in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, covering over 3,500 farmers associated with 70 farmer producer organisations (FPOs).

S Ganesh Kumar, Divisional Chief Executive, Agri Business, ITC Ltd, said the initiative reflects the company's commitment to building resilient value chains while enhancing India's agri-export competitiveness.
