New Delhi, Oct. 15 -- The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has signed an MoU with the Quality Council of India (QCI) to strengthen food safety and hygiene across its train and station catering units.
Under the pact, QCI will conduct unannounced quarterly and half-yearly inspections to ensure compliance with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India regulations.
The MoU was signed by IRCTC General Manager Sudhir Warrier and QCI Principal Advisor Subroto Ghosh.
Inspectors will use a digital application with geo-tagging, time-stamping and photographic evidence. Audit reports must be submitted within 24 hours, enabling corrective action tracking against defaulting vendors.
Inspections will cover staff hygiene, food storage, temperature controls, pest management and segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian ingredients. The agreement also allows future initiatives, including passenger satisfaction surveys, infrastructure audits and specialised staff training.
