New Delhi, Aug. 17 -- Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has intensified inspections to curb the sale of unapproved food, beverages and packaged drinking water on trains and at stations.

Quick Response Teams (QRTs), along with railway commercial departments, are conducting checks to ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.

In Lucknow, 117 trains were inspected between July 28 and August 8, resulting in the seizure of 5,241 bottles of unapproved packaged drinking water. In Chandigarh, 51 trains were inspected and 3,108 bottles seized. At Ambala, QRTs seized 13 cartons of unapproved products, including ice cream and flavoured milk. Similar inspections at Saharanpur also resulted in seizures of unapproved food, beverages and packaged drinking water.
