
Raiganj, July 9 -- Officials of the Raiganj Social Forestry division, assisted by police and the block administrations, demolished several unauthorised sawmills in the Chakulia and Raiganj Police Station areas of North Dinajpur district on Thursday using excavators. During the operation, authorities seized numerous machines from the mills.
According to Raiganj social forestry officials, there are more than 100 such unauthorised sawmills operating in all nine blocks of the district. After the change of power in the state, a move has been initiated to demolish such illegal sawmills.
Bhupen Biswakarma, the Divisional Forest Officer of Raiganj Social Forestry division, stated: "We demolished around nine unauthorised saw mills. Two at Kalibari, one at Sirsi and the rest in the Raiganj Police Station limits. Move against such unauthorised mills will continue over the next few days."
