Kolkata, May 12 -- The Inspector-in-Charge (IC) of Baruipur Police Station, along with a Sub-Inspector (SI), has been suspended for allegedly assaulting the BJP candidate from Baruipur Paschim.
It is alleged that on May 5, a day after the election results were declared, police personnel physically assaulted BJP candidate Biswajit Pal in Baruipur Paschim. In a video that later went viral on social media, several policemen, including Baruipur police station IC Samar Dey, were purportedly seen assaulting Pal and forcing him into a police van. Millennium Post, however, could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.
Pal also alleged that the police had registered a false case against him. Following his complaint to the state police authorities, an inquiry was initiated into the incident. After the commencement of the probe, IC Samar Dey and SI Sukumar Ruidas were placed under suspension. A departmental inquiry has also been ordered against both officers in connection with the allegations.
