India, June 26 -- A 26-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide after enduring repeated domestic violence at the hands of her husband, police said. The incident came to light on June 23 when Nangloi Police received a PCR call at around 11.09 am informing them that the woman had been brought dead to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital. As the death occurred within seven years of marriage, the case was referred to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) for mandatory inquest proceedings in accordance with legal provisions. During the inquiry, the Tehsildar of Mundka recorded the statement of the deceased's mother, who alleged that her son-in-law, identified as Rohit, regularly assaulted her daughter while under the influence of alcohol. Police said Rohit is currently undergoing treatment for a life-threatening head injury sustained in a road accident a few months ago. The investigation gathered momentum after the deceased's family submitted two videos purportedly recorded by the woman before taking the extreme step. Police said the videos suggest she was suffering from severe psychological distress and feared for her life due to continuous harassment by her husband. A post-mortem examination was conducted on June 24 to determine the exact cause of death. Based on the statements of family members, findings of the preliminary inquiry and other material collected during the investigation, police have registered a case against the husband. Investigators are examining the videos and other evidence to establish the circumstances that led to the woman's death. Further investigation is underway, and additional legal action will be taken based own the findings of the probe, police said.
