Dinhata, Sept. 11 -- The bodies of a husband and wife were found lying in a pool of blood inside their home near the Himghar area under Village-1 Gram Panchayat in Dinhata on Friday morning, triggering tension in the area.

The deceased were identified as Sukumar Barman and his wife Champa Roy. Sukumar was reportedly a van driver.

According to local residents, neighbours spotted the couple lying in a blood-soaked condition inside the house and informed Dinhata police. Dinhata SDPO Prashanta Debnath, IC Budhaditya Roy and other police personnel reached the spot and began an investigation.

The bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examination. Police are probing whether the couple were murdered or died under other circumstances. The exact cause of death remains unclear.

The couple's daughter, Tumpa Roy, said she had repeatedly called her mother on Friday morning but received no response. "I called my mother several times, but she did not answer. I then sent my elder son to the house. Later, when I went there, I found both of them lying on the floor in a bloody condition," she said.

According to locals, the couple had occasional family disputes. However, Tumpa said she did not believe they could kill each other.

"There were problems between them at times, but I do not think they could kill each other," she said.
