New Delhi, Sept. 19 -- Police on Saturday served a notice on Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) chief and Nowda MLA Humayun Kabir in connection with a viral audio clip allegedly discussing a plan to plant BJP flags at the under-construction Babri Masjid in Rejinagar to provoke communal tension ahead of the October 6 bypoll.
Police sources hinted that they are trying to find out if the purported voice is that of the MLA. For which they plan to hold a forensic test and the MLA's voice analysis is likely to take place. A police team visited Kabir's residence in the Shaktinagar police station area and asked him to appear at Berhampore police station on September 21 for questioning him on the issue
Police had earlier arrested Sarafraj Nawaj Chowdhury in connection with the audio. Investigators said the recording purportedly features a conversation about switching off CCTV cameras and putting up eight to 10 BJP flags at the mosque, which is under construction and is a brainchild of the MLA.
The audio is to be subjected to voice-sampling tests. The notice comes amid another setback for his party as his son and AJUP candidate Golam Nabi Azad Rabin has been allotted the 'table' symbol instead of the 'flute' for the bypoll. Kabir alleged harassment by the EC.
