Kolkata, Sept. 24 -- The state Health department on Thursday directed all government and private hospitals empanelled under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY and Mukhya Mantri Swasthya Bima Yojana to designate a Medical Coordinator (MEDCO), preferably a doctor, to streamline beneficiary registration, pre-authorisation and claims.
The MEDCO will serve as a link between hospitals, Pradhan Mantri Arogya Mitras and scheme authorities, handling beneficiary verification, pre-authorisation requests, clinical documentation, claim queries and discharge formalities.
The coordinator will also maintain records and ensure final claim submission.
The department said MEDCOs must be graduates or at least higher secondary pass, and be trained in scheme guidelines, benefit packages and claim-processing systems.
