New Delhi, Sept. 21 -- Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the third National Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Heads of States and Union Territories in New Delhi on Tuesday, with senior officials set to deliberate on ways to dismantle drug cartels and tackle emerging challenges such as synthetic drugs, darknet networks and cryptocurrencies.
The two-day conference, organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), will bring together heads of the anti-narcotics task forces of all 36 states and Union Territories, along with representatives of various government departments and agencies.
Shah will also release television commercials aimed at creating awareness against drug abuse and lay the foundation stones for NCB Zone headquarters in Lucknow and Dehradun. The best-performing State/UT ANTF will be felicitated during the conference, while the NCB's improved website will also be unveiled.
The conference is being held under the theme "United Resolve, Shared Responsibility" and will focus on steps to achieve the targets outlined in the Vision Document for Narcotics Control 2026-29 and strategies adopted by states and Union Territories for their effective implementation.
Eight technical sessions have been planned around the four pillars of the Vision Document -- enforcement and operations, intelligence and operations, control of precursor and synthetic narcotic drugs, demand and harm reduction, and capacity-building and coordination.
The sessions will focus on dismantling drug networks and cartels, strengthening enforcement and prevention measures, improving treatment responses, controlling precursor chemicals, curbing illicit cultivation and addressing the use of the dark web and cryptocurrencies for drug-related activities.
