Udaipur, Sept. 15 -- Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL) is highlighting the growing role of young engineering talent in transforming mining & metals operations as India celebrates Engineers' Day. Engineering graduates account for 57.8 per cent of the company's executive workforce, while 76 per cent of young professionals come from core engineering disciplines. Nearly 10 per cent of its leaders are below 35 years, while over 62 per cent of the overall workforce is under 35.
Young engineers are increasingly combining core expertise with emerging technologies, contributing to remote blasting, tele-remote equipment handling, real-time monitoring, operational intelligence platforms, automation and digital control rooms.
Of HZL's 2,685 executives, 1,551 have engineering backgrounds, while women account for 20.5 per cent of executives. The company made 335 campus hires in FY26.
Amarendu Prakash, CEO & Whole-time Director, HZL, said, "The engineer of today is entering an industry that is fundamentally changing." He added that the company aims to create an environment where young engineers' "curiosity, technical capability & ambition" can drive innovation. It also has over 423 non-executives involved in critical engineering processes. Its workforce has a gender diversity ratio of 26.3 per cent.
