Kolkata, Sept. 24 -- Heavy overnight rain followed by repeated spells through Thursday left large parts of Kolkata waterlogged, with several areas in the southern and northern parts of the city affected. The downpour came as a deep depression over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha continued to influence weather conditions over Bengal.
According to the weather office, the city received around 80-100 mm of rain overnight, with southern Kolkata recording more rain than the northern parts. Rain continued in spells through Thursday, adding to the waterlogging.
Among the affected areas were Bhowanipore, Ballygunge Place, Khidderpore and Anandapur in south Kolkata, while Amherst Street, MG Road and Chittaranjan Avenue in the north and central parts also reported waterlogging. On Friday, rain is likely to continue across South Bengal, with heavy rain of 110 mm possible at one or two places in East and West Midnapore, Bankura, Purulia, West Burdwan and Birbhum. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely.
