Kolkata, Aug. 28 -- The Calcutta High Court on Friday gave the CBI three weeks to complete its investigation into the RG Kar rape and murder case, with the special bench indicating that it now wants the probe to move towards a conclusion.
During an in-camera hearing, the bench of Justices Shampa Sarkar and Tirthankar Ghosh is learnt to have orally remarked that the probe must be completed now, adding that no further background details or additional evidence were required.
The court directed Additional Solicitor General Dhiraj Trivedi to submit, in a closed envelope, a report prepared by the CBI indicating the "path through which they have been able to locate the involvement of certain persons". The court also formally took the CBI's report and case diary on record and ordered that both be retained in sealed cover.
The matter has been listed for September 24 at 4 pm.
The bench, which had earlier directed the investigation team to examine the circumstances from the victim's dinner with her doctor colleagues through to her cremation, expressed dissatisfaction with the progress of the probe.
It observed that although some interrogations had been conducted, these were not sufficient in the court's assessment.
The court had also asked the investigators to revisit the grievances raised by the victim's parents and question them if required.
On June 25, the bench had expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation report, particularly over repeated references to a "larger conspiracy" without details indicating what the probe had uncovered beyond that assertion.
