Kolkata, June 29 -- The Calcutta High Court on Monday directed the Director General and Inspector General of Police to submit a report within 10 days disclosing whether any criminal cases, apart from the Bidhannagar North Police Station case registered on June 9, are pending against former Bidhannagar mayor and TMC leader Sabyasachi Dutta.

The direction came after Dutta moved the court stating that he had been arrested in connection with the Bidhannagar North police case and apprehended that other criminal prosecutions may have been initiated against him without his knowledge. His counsel sought disclosure of any such cases.

Taking note of the submission, Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya directed the state's police chief to file a report specifying whether any criminal proceedings, other than the June 9 case, are pending against the petitioner. The court directed that the report be submitted within 10 days. The matter has been listed for further consideration on July 13.
