Kolkata, Oct. 6 -- The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday directed former Rajganj BDO Prashanta Barman, a principal accused in the murder of Salt Lake gold trader Swapan Kamilya, to surrender before police within 48 hours.

Barman must surrender by 3.30 pm on October 8, failing which his salary will be stopped and properties attached.

He has been absconding for several months despite earlier court directions to ensure his arrest. The court had previously asked the state DGP to take effective steps against him.

It has now sought a CID progress report on the investigation, directing the agency to submit it on December 14.
