Kolkata, Oct. 12 -- The Calcutta High Court on Monday directed the Kolkata Police Commissioner to ensure adequate protection for Trinamool MLA Kunal Ghosh against any further mob attack while his plea is pending before a division bench.

During the hearing, Ghosh's counsel alleged that his security cover was downgraded, followed by repeated attacks on June 15, September 25 and

September 27.

Additional Advocate General Bilwadal Bhattacharyya submitted that Ghosh already had protection from the state intelligence branch. Questioning the adequacy of the arrangement, the judge asked how the incidents on September 26 and 27 occurred despite the security cover.

The single judge declined to grant additional security, leaving the matter for consideration by the division bench. The division bench has directed the registry to compile cases involving egg-pelting attacks.
