Kolkata, June 29 -- In a tragic incident at the Boldepota area of Hasnabad in North 24-Parganas on Sunday evening, a two-month-old infant was found dead in a pond under mysterious circumstances.
According to sources, the incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Bhebia Gram Panchayat. The infant's mother reported that she had put her son to sleep on a cot on the veranda before briefly stepping away to use the washroom. When she returned, she found the cot empty and the veranda gate wide open. The family members and neighbours immediately launched a search. Shortly afterwards, the child's body was spotted floating in a nearby pond. He was pulled out and rushed to Taki Rural Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The infant's family has alleged foul play, claiming that the baby was kidnapped and thrown into the pond.
The post-mortem examination was conducted at Basirhat District Hospital on Monday. The police are awaiting the autopsy report.
Till Monday night, no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
