New delhi, June 9 -- The Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested a 34-year-old alleged member of the Hashim Baba gang wanted in connection with the sensational Farsh Bazar double murder case, officials said on Monday.
The accused, identified as Amir alias Saleem alias Tillan, a resident of Seelampur, was apprehended after a late-night chase on June 8 following specific intelligence inputs about his movement in the area.
Police said a Crime Branch team intercepted Amir, but he allegedly tried to flee and opened fire at the personnel. In retaliatory action taken in self-defence, a police officer fired at the accused, injuring him in the leg. Despite the injury, Amir allegedly attempted to escape before being overpowered and arrested.
A .32 bore semi-automatic pistol made in Italy, four live cartridges and four empty cartridge cases were recovered from his possession, police said. A fresh case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act has been registered at the Crime Branch police station.
Amir was wanted in connection with the October 31, 2024 double murder in Farsh Bazar during Diwali celebrations. Akash Sharma and his nephew Rishabh Sharma were shot dead outside their residence, while Akash's son Krish Sharma sustained bullet injuries. The incident, captured on CCTV and widely circulated on social media, had triggered panic in the locality.
Investigators had identified Amir and gangster Anil alias Sonu Matka as key accused in the case. Police said the murders were linked to gang rivalry, personal enmity and financial disputes involving associates of the Hashim Baba gang.
