New Delhi, Oct. 31 -- The Haryana government has constituted a five-member inquiry committee to investigate the alleged assault on a six-year-old girl with special needs by an eight-year-old boy at Sanskriti Model School in Panchkula, and ordered a comprehensive safety audit of schools across the state.
The incident took place on October 28, when classes were reportedly merged due to teachers being assigned other duties. According to sources, the boy allegedly attacked the girl repeatedly with stones, a brick and a flower vase before banging her head against the classroom floor. The assault was captured on CCTV cameras.
The girl was initially taken to Civil Hospital in Sector 6 and subsequently referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh, where she is undergoing treatment. She sustained serious facial injuries, including a nasal fracture. The Child Rights Commission said her life was not in danger.
Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda said the government would bear the entire treatment cost and would not tolerate negligence affecting children's safety. A senior officer has also been assigned to assist the family.
The committee, headed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, includes the District Education Officer, District Child Protection Officer, a police officer and a special educator or child psychologist.
