New Delhi, Sept. 4 -- HarperCollins India will publish Congress leader Sonia Gandhi's memoir, Belonging: A Journey of Love, following a controversy over the book's proposed Indian publication. The memoir is scheduled for a global release on November 10 and will trace Gandhi's journey from her childhood in post-war Italy to her life in India, her marriage to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and her decades at the centre of Indian politics.
HarperCollins described the book as one of the most anticipated political memoirs and said it would offer an insider's perspective on India's journey. The development comes after Penguin Random House India said it would not be the publisher of the memoir in India. The publisher had denied that its decision was because Gandhi rejected editorial changes, saying it had remained willing and keen to publish the book and that fact-checking and recommendations were a normal part of the publishing process.
The international release of Belonging: A Journey of Love remains unchanged. The memoir is expected to provide a personal account of Gandhi's life and experiences, including her years in India and her time at the centre of the country's political landscape.
