
GHAZIABAD, May 24 -- A dispute over sharing census-related information allegedly turned violent in Ghaziabad's Muradnagar area after a 55-year-old man was shot by his neighbour, police said on Sunday.
The victim, identified as Virendra Tyagi, sustained a gunshot injury while sitting in the verandah of his house in Adarsh Nagar Colony on Saturday night. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where his condition remains critical. Police have detained the accused, Rampal Chaudhary, who lives in the same neighbourhood.
According to officials, the two men had an ongoing dispute over minor neighbourhood issues. During preliminary questioning, the accused allegedly claimed he was upset after Tyagi accompanied census officials to his house and helped them with information related to the ongoing enumeration exercise.Chaudhary allegedly opened fire at Tyagi outside his home. Weapon used in the crime is being examined; further inquiry is underway.
