New Delhi, Oct. 20 -- Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday called for collective efforts to eliminate social evils, including corruption, crime, discrimination and hatred, while addressing Ramlila and Vijayadashami celebrations in Sector 10, Dwarka. President Droupadi Murmu attended the event as the chief guest.

Extending her greetings on Vijayadashami, Gupta said the festival represents the victory of truth, righteousness and justice over falsehood, wrongdoing and arrogance. She urged people to draw lessons from Lord Ram's life and incorporate his ideals into their everyday conduct.

"Truth always triumphs over falsehood, righteousness over unrighteousness, and justice over injustice," the Chief Minister said, highlighting the enduring message of the festival.

Gupta said Lord Ram should not be viewed only as a deity to be worshipped but also as an example to follow in life. While Ravana has traditionally symbolised evil, she said several social problems continue to affect society and require sustained efforts to overcome them.

Listing challenges such as anger, jealousy, addiction, corruption, criminal activity, discrimination and atrocities against women, the Chief Minister said these could be addressed only when individuals took responsibility for their actions and fulfilled their duties in accordance with ethical values.

She also urged people to use Vijayadashami as an opportunity for introspection and to identify and address shortcomings in their own lives. According to her, adopting Lord Ram's ideals would help individuals contribute to society while supporting the country's development. Calling for an end to hostility, Gupta said people must replace hatred with affection and work together towards a better future.

"Hatred must be eliminated and the lamp of love must be lit to build a brighter future for the country," she said.

The Chief Minister also called upon citizens to remain united against social evils and take a firm stand against anti-national elements. She stressed that collective participation was essential to the country's progress and the creation of a better future for its people.
