NEW DELHI, July 5 -- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Sunday dedicated a public park in Gujranwala Town, Keshav Puram Zone, to the memory of noted social worker Late D.J. Sachdeva, with Mayor Pravesh Wahi describing the move as a tribute to a life devoted to public service and community welfare.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by MLA Ashok Goel Deoraha, Keshav Puram Zone Chairman Vikesh Sethi, municipal councillors, members of social and religious organisations, representatives of the Sachdeva family and local residents.
Addressing the gathering, Wahi said that individuals who dedicate themselves to society continue to inspire generations through their work and values. He said naming the park after Sachdeva was not merely a symbolic gesture but a recognition of his contribution to the community and an effort to encourage younger generations to embrace the ideals of service and social responsibility.
The Mayor also underlined the role of parks as more than recreational spaces, describing them as centres for community interaction, environmental conservation and public well-being. He said the MCD plans to upgrade parks across the city through multiple models, including Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), collaborations with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and support from the Delhi government.
Wahi said the civic body is working to expand green spaces, improve sanitation and strengthen civic infrastructure in line with the vision of a cleaner and more
sustainable Delhi.
He appealed to residents to actively participate in maintaining parks and public spaces, stressing that community involvement is essential to achieving long-term environmental goals.
Speaking on the occasion, Goel Deoraha, Sethi and other speakers recalled Sachdeva's contribution to social causes and expressed hope that the park would serve as a lasting reminder of his commitment to public welfare and inspire future generations.
