Kolkata, July 15 -- The Suvendu Adhikari-led government in the state has decided to restore the security cover of Meera Bhattacharya, widow of the late Bengal Chief Minister Budhhadeb Bhattacharya, nearly a year after it was withdrawn.
The decision was taken following a review of the security arrangements for former constitutional functionaries and their immediate family members, sources said.
Buddhadeb Bhattacharya who served as West Bengal chief minister from 2000 to 2011, died on August 8, 2024. The Trinamool Congress government had removed the security cover at the residence shortly after Bhattacharya's demise.
Bhattacharya chose to remain in the Palm Avenue apartment throughout his tenure as chief minister, despite suggestions to shift to an official residence. Following his death, Meera Bhattacharya continued to live there.
It was learnt from the sources that necessary instructions have been issued in this regard and deployment of police personnel will be made shortly.
The current government believes that institutional respect should be given to those who had held high constitutional offices,
